Happy Christmas

We celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve. We had a lovely day. The kids decorated the tree in the morning, we got dressed and went to town for a hot chocolate. After we went to the church for the "Carols around the Christmas Tree".

Carols around the Christmas Tree, St. Nicholas' Collegiate Church, Galway

We went home, lighted the candles, sang traditional Christmas songs, read the last chapter from "Hatschi" - "Frohe Weihnachten, liebes Christkind" before finally after a really long day the kids could open the presents!

Happy Christmas!

Table runner arrived ...

Some weeks ago I got left over pieces from a friend to make a table runner matching the new upholstery of the chairs. First we thought about making a double sided one but when I got the fabric I knew it would  be much to thick for my sewing machine. So I decided to make two without asking. This was the first one.

So liebes Christkind!

She wanted to be surprised so one day I asked the husband what he thinks about it. His answer was just "the geometric pattern matches the style in the living room" and you can be sure this was not much help. She did not know that I made two of them and he did neither. Yesterday she got the parcel and because I am a bit unorganized (ok, the kids stole my sellotape so I had to improve) I wrote her a letter:
Dear Christkind, your parcel is on the way and hopefully you hold it in your hands soon. Here is how to unpack it: take the card and don't read it. Take the table runner out, have a look at it and love it. Now you can read the card. After you can remove the paper and have an other close look. When you finished adoring your new table clothes you will find a "lovely" packed parcel. This one put under the tree and wait until Christmas Eve. I hope you love your table runners and you are not to angry that I forgot to sent some Cadbury. :( Merry Christmas!
So this is the second one.

Both table runners are more than 2m long and about 32cm wide. One has a light grey back and the other got charcoal. The binding is a real dark grey. I really hope she loves them and what she will find in the little parcel. I used all the fabrics so no chance to redo an other one!

My new table runner ...

Er ist hier! Meine neue Weihnachtstischdecke fuers Wohnzimmer ist angekommen. Vielen lieben Dank an Marit.
I got it! My Modern Christmas Table Runner Swap - table runner is here. I already put all the stuff from the table aside and put it on the table in the living room. Oh I love it! I love the colors (yeah Cindy, this green is just adorable) and have a look at this little gingerbread man she sent me. Isn't he just adorable? Santa helps him standing until he can be put on the tree.

I am absolutely in love with my new table runner. The kids chaos was put away in seconds. Can you see the applique stars? So  lovely! So many lovely details. She also did some stitching around the trees and some stars. The ric rac is just perfect.

The only thing I can do now is waiting until my table runner arrives in its new home. There are still some things to be done until Christmas ...

Hexagons for Christmas

Some weeks ago I started to make hexagons. When I had some finished the girls started to play with them. At the end one made a pattern and she wanted me to sew them exactly this way. So she made a picture (ok it have been some more) so I don't mess it! Now that I finished the Christmas table runner I could sit down and sew them together. It was fun sitting on the sofa with the mobile next to me and sewing one after the other.

I used lots of the simply colors and some from a Christmas Charm pack I ordered the other day. Actually I wanted to make two different things but she decided that they have to be together. I had no choice! So I sew them together yesterday and this morning I used the time to stick them to a fabric, batted and backed it and put some lovely fresh binding on! I love it!

The hexagons left a "whole" (as she called it). This hexagon can be seen on the back as hexagonquilting. The last hexagon I found I put in the otherwise really empty corner. Now I have to wait until she comes from school and sees what I made. I hope she loves it too!

Next week I will sent it of as a Christmas present and I hope she will love it too!

ornament for the swap

We also had to made a little ornament for the MSTR. I wanted to make a hoop for a long time and as I had a Christmas fabric with snowmen and trees I thought this might look nice. A little stitching and tata ...

Merry Christmas!
Adding a green ribbon to hang it up and yesterday I posted it. Merry Christmas!

Christmas Table Runner Swap

Fertig!
Finished!!! The table runner for the Christmas Table runner swap is finished. Only two days late. As my son is sick today he could help me make a picture and hold the table runner so I can show it in full length. The weather is freezing cold and mostly raining so no outdoor shooting this day.

My partner asked for green and red. I love the Christmas fabrics by Aneela Hoey and the charm packs were great for this project. I also used some aqua from this bundle. Yesterday I did some stitching (my finger hurts so badly today) and this morning I could finish with a red/green binding.

Unfortunately the selected fabric for the back was not enough. I used a fabric I got in summer (oh yes, I did Christmas shopping in Austria) and I like it. It is not as modern as the rest but for me it matches Christmas perfectly. As soon as my boy gets back to school I will sent this to my partner. Hope she likes it.

Countdown to Christmas ...

This morning the kids were running down to check if there is an Adventcalender. Of course there is one for everyone. This year everyone had one of the LEGO ones but the little ones did not like it and was ordering a chocolate one. I did not want to hang the filling ones up this year but in this case I put the LEGO one away and filled an other one with chocolate. She also ordered to put the Christmas decoration on. So all the snowmen and Santis are back on the window.

Some things we would do in Austria at this time we can do here as well so the girls used the time when their brother was at the rugby training to go ice skating. It was hard at the beginning but at the end they did not want to get of the ice after 45 minutes. Yes, here you can just go on for 45 minutes.

Mal schauen, was mein Garnvorrat sagt.
I also catch up. Finally I made the top for the Modern Christmas Table Runner Swap. It is basted and waits to be quilted. Or better do some stitching? I wait until the daylight to see if I have a matching yarn ... tomorrow!

What a coincidence that Kirsten, who wrote the tutorial for my fist HST trial is also the Swap Mama. I practiced a little since my first HST Miniquilt and I am so happy that the HST match almost perfect. And the best thing: it was fun!

I hope my partner  will be happy too especially because she has to wait a little longer. I should have sent it on Friday :(

Scrappy Swap ...

Somehow time is flying bye and I feel like I have done nothing. Not even a little tiny bit of sewing is done and the post prepared on Monday was still just prepared. Finally I can show you what I got  in the Scrappy Swap. Even the packing was so lovely.

I got my own NYB! Isn't this great? I always was looking at all these lovely NYB you can find in flickr and now this is finally mine. I already placed it next to my sewing machine just scared to put my coffee on it. I also love that Linda put this lovely wooden JOY and some candles in and left the chocolate at her home. I love them.

Of course there were also some scraps. Look at this lovely fabrics she sent over. Owls and donkeys! Oh this is so great.

I also could finish the table runner for a friend. The grey fabric was the one she sent me. These are the left overs from her new chairs and now she can place a table runner with the same fabric on the table. I just hope she does not have a look here and can wait until it arrives back in Austria. She just has to wait some more days cause there will be an other surprise which is not finished till now.

It is still November and it is not to late to show the stash bee block. The bee queen asked for a portrait. I really tried hard to make a picture or me that I can sew but this is how I ended...

She also asked for an other block with a pet. No we don't have any pets but I am sure if my kids could get a pet they would love to have an exotic one like a penguin. That does not mean they would get one!

And because I was a little stressed today and did not take care for a second and threw the iron on the floor ... this is how it looks like now! Yeah! I am not stressed and I have plenty of time so why not clean an iron additional. I am sure I could get bored otherwise.

So after I cleaned this one I can go back to a sewing weekend and hopefully finish all the projects I am late at.

Busy ...

Only a few weeks left until Christmas and still so many things to be done. Somehow the list is not getting shorter. There is the quilt for a friend. Finally all fabrics arrived and I could make the first block. Happily she likes it. So there are just 15 more to be done ...

There is also a table runner for an other friend. Unfortunately I ran out of fabric and hat to order as well. The top is done and I started quilting yesterday. Hopefully I can sent it on Friday.

Finally I also prepared some hexies and I think I will use them in a Christmas present in a secret Christmas swap. (If they not disappear when my little one is playing with them)

Today was "Galway Science" at the NUIG for kids in primary schools. So there were laptops driving around controlled by a mobile, bananas functioning as a battery to play the piano which was drawn on a piece of paper with a pencil with a screw driver, building a submarine at the Lego competition and much more finished with a German hot dog at the Continental Christmas Market.

Some more things have to be done and the weeks till Christmas are much to short. Finally we started to bake Christmas biscuits today. Hopefully there will be more till the First Advent next Sunday.

Only one more story I want to tell you. Tiny Dancer - Lily Mae, a little girl affecting the Irish. Here in Galway 200 people recorded the song "Tiny Dancer" for her to raise money. Yesterday it was launched on iTunes and because soon it is Christmas ...

Work in progress ...

Slowly Christmas is coming and there are still so many things to  be done. Yesterday the mug rug for Sheila arrived. Sorry for sending Austrian chocolate but the Irish is not really my favorite. I am so happy she likes what I made for her. For the Christmas table runner swap I am still waiting on the fabrics. I hope they arrive this week. So the only think I can show you today is a little sneak from the table runner I am making for a friend ...

Somehow it was not a nice day to make pix. I  hope she likes, what I make out of her fabrics. Anyway! It is to late to say no! The fabric is cut and she has to take what she gets *gg*

Waiting for fabrics ...

Somehow I ran out of fabrics or I just needed a reason to buy new one. So the Scrappy Swap is done and sent but for the Christmas Table runner swap I am still waiting to get some Christmas fabrics, so we used the time to do some light games ...

.. and finally I made the tin whistle bag for a little girl!

That's it! I go back waiting ...

Scrappy Swap ...

Sometimes you just have to sit down and everything will be fine. That was the plan for today. Finishing the scrappy swap goodie for my partner. I already started some days ago preparing the HSTs so I just had to trim them and arrange them. This is fun! Playing with HST. The green one in the corner? Or the blue one exchanging with the red? Is this green to close to the red? Somehow I had an other pattern in mind when I arranged them the last time 'cause there are still two HST left.

This is my "scrap inspired goodie" for my partner.  I wanted to make a mug rug for her but somehow it went bigger than I thought. Looks like this one is a little to big to be a mug rug but it is also to small to be a miniquilt. I hope my partner likes it and I can't wait to hear what she will use it for. I also did a little quilting this time and soon I can start FMQ.

I just need to pack it all up and post it. It was lots of fun. HST look great every time but it is always a huge challenge.

Motivation where are you?

I lost my sewing motivation somewhere in October and I absolutely did not want to sit down and sew. This was the first time I did not have fun making the Bee blocks. But they had to be done. Today I made the second block for the Modern Irish Bee. Karen, I am so sorry for being late! The first block was done weeks ago. Only the border is missing as I did not get enough fabric. So I tried my best to do the other one today. Scrappy Hearts! I had to piece the background as it was not wide enough. I hope Karen likes them. This will be a gorgeous quilt!

The other thing I started today was searching for scraps for the Scrappy Swap. I am happy that all the scraps are in a box now but I found just blue ones.  Looks like I love blue. I hope my partner likes these as well. If not, I go digging again and I am sure I will find some other colors hidden.

need to practise making pics again
I also started to make the little thingy for my partner. I want to make a HST pattern so I made them and laid them out. Unfortunately the time ran out so I just made a little cup holder with the left over HSTs. I am happy how the points match. Looks like there is nothing to be scared of any more!

Mouthy Stitches 2 is over

It was so much fun to be part of Mouthy Stitches 2. I had a great time watching all these lovely totes coming up on flickr. Amazing what can be made out of a simple pattern. Finally all the tote bags are arriving in there new home as did mine. Isn't it lovely? I took it to the Knitting and Stitching Show in Dublin yesterday and what better can you use it for than buying fabrics? Can you see how filled it is?

Meine Tasche in Regenbogenfarben! Vielen, vielen Dank Courtney!
I am just happy. I will not share this one with my little girls (maybe that means I have to make them an other one?). This is MY tote in all the lovely rainbow colors. Thank you so much Courtney!

#quiltphoto (my first)

I could show you my first quilt but it is to late now and I won't wake my son but it was my first time at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Dublin. It was an exhausting day driving up and down again. I did a little shopping there. Only some fabrics for a friends quilt. I had my girl with me. She tried decopatch and loved it. She wrote her name in little breads and took them home. It was a lovely day!

#quiltphoto (rolled up)

It is not nice if you have to get out of bed early on a Saturday to bring your son to the bus but it is less nice if your car looks like this ...

It was terrible freezing cold and it hail started as soon as we started driving down to the pitch. At least the bus was on time leaving and almost in time coming back. They boys had a great game and they did not care about the weather. Just the coaches looked a little frozen.
So we did not want to leave the house (except picking up my son again) and did a little crafting at home. Since my little one has seen the gorgeous videos she always wants to make them. This was a good day to do so before we go back and rolled ourselves in cosy blankets and watch a movie ...

#quiltphot (rolled up) before we got rolled in

#quiltphoto (kids)

It was an exciting day. First we opened the parcel from courtiepie with my tote bag. Yes, it arrived but you have to wait until tomorrow as I did not take any pictures today. Courtney did a great job. After so many times saying "I love rainbows" I finally got my own. Not only the bag has all the colors on the front she also made such a lovely key fob with my name on it. No, it is my real name and she did not stitch "cheeky monkey" *gg* We took the bag and went off to town. So the bag had a lovely walk with us trough Galway.

Key Fob
can you see my little rainbow? It is mine and I will not share it with the kids
The kids had a short photo shoot in town and after they just wanted to go home. My son bought the new Skylander Giants. He was saving for weeks and now he got enough money to buy the booster pack for the WII. He was so excited. He just had to wait. It was the sisters turn first on the WII and while they were playing the little one fell asleep.

#quiltphoto (black and white)

I am a total fan of black but just not in quilting or crafting. I love my black levis! I love my black shirts! BUT   I want bright color on quilts and crafting. I have one tiny little peace of black fabric in my stash. Just in case I could need it. But I do have plenty of white fabrics. Plain white, snow white, white with white stars, etc and I have white wool. That is the only cloth I do not like in black. So I made myself white mitts and you know what? They are finished! Finally I can say (at least for some days) these are M I N E.

So an other thing of my Finish Along list is gone and when I go to town tomorrow I will have warm hands. Isn't this great?

Mouthy Stitches

Did you hear the rock rumbling? It is always the worst part waiting for your parcel to arrive safely in the new home. This morning I got the email: she got it and best of all - she likes it!!! This time my partner was danny. We are also together in Stash Bee. Her mosaic was full of stitching and embroidery and I thought I need to stitch a little on the back. I thought if I show this she will directly know I am her partner so I had to wait to show the back till now.

You can see now how the bag is closed with a huge orange button. This time you can see the key fob from the backside as well with all the lady bugs. So now I can relax and wait for my tote bag to arrive. It was a lot of fun again. All these lovely bags I have seen. It is amazing what was made out of this simple pattern. Stunning!

Halloween and #quiltphoto (next to your machine)

Today is Halloween! We only do this since we are in Ireland but I heard friends are doing it in Austria as well now. Normally you should look scary but the little one only wanted to be a cat. I love it! She looks so gorgeous in her pink pussy suit and she enjoys it so much. We also did a great painting this year and at least this evening she looks like little kitten. We had to do the face painting at lunchtime but it looks still great now in the evening. Just the lips I left for after dinner.

Today Rhonda asked for next to my machine. As the machine is on the dining table it always has to be put away for dinner. So usually the machine is under the table. But if it is on the table I use the space on the left side for my coffee/tea and the pincushion. Also my notebook and scissors (the seam ripper is hidden behind the cup). Behind you can also see the tin for my scraps when sewing. Oh yes, there is also a sushi stick. This one was great when turning the handles for the tote bag :)

#quiltphoto (prints)

An other easy one: no printer = no prints! the only prints I can offer are my pictures. Not really something to quilt but there is one print that really, really gives me nightmares. I love this pattern and I so would love to make a rainbow colored one but I failed to many times that it has to wait now ...

It looks great, doesn't it? I need to get back to it. Just not today. An other day ....
